Assume a Miami interdiction agent is at the airport watching arrivals and departures. He knows that drug “mules” are typically white women between the ages of 35 and 40, traveling with a child. If he gives more attention to passengers who fit this description, is he racially profiling? What if the prototypical mule is, say, hispanic or muslim – would that be racially profiling? Should we prevent police officers from using such statistics?
