The case study’s design is utilizing a single sample and comparing the sample to themselves at the end of a 12-week psychoeducational support group (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014). The Depression Anxiety Stress Scale was used to pretest the sample group to gather emotional baselines at the beginning of the treatment intervention and again as a posttest to measure emotional changes after the 12-week period (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014). To analyze the data in this case study, I would utilize the inferential statistical analysis T-test for dependent samples. This analysis option measures the same variable but looks at the difference between two measures on the variable (Yegidis, Weinbach, & Myers, 2018). The study is measuring the differences in emotional changes in sexual abuse survivors after they have attended a 12-week psychoeducational support group and comparing the scores of each individual to a post treatment score of the same individual (Plummer, Makris, & Brocksen, 2014).

As a social worker, I will use many existing intervention and measurement tools when working with clients. When evaluating existing research, it will be important for me to use tools that have been proven to have statistical significance in making positive changes for the client population I am working with. That statistical significance will ensure that the tool has been proven effective with the population rather than having significant results based on sampling error (Yegidis, Weinbach, & Myers, 2018). If I were working with the same population as the case study, I could use the statistical analysis information to ensure that this tool will be effective versus picking ineffective or possibly harmful interventions.
