SPCH-S122 Interpersonal Communication – IU South Bend – Dyad Project
See also Files for Word versions if desired.
This will be a dyad (2-person) project that you do in the format of a video that you upload to YouTube.
- You will need to seek out a partner for this assignment. Ideally, this would be someone else in this class. If that is not practical, try a fellow student on your campus, or if not that, then a family member or friend. Just be sure he or she is willing! The two of you will be the dyad doing this project together.
- You need to choose one chapter from our textbook, then select one course concept from that chapter, then clearly and fully explain them. Think depth, not breadth. NOTE: You cannot choose chapter 11 on Conflict, as you will be using this topic on your chosen chapter.
- Your dyad will present for a minimum of 5 minutes, a maximum of 10 minutes. This will be in the form of a video, uploaded to YouTube, with a link sent to the class. NOTE: Any videos you show in your presentation must not exceed 1 minute total.
- You must somehow connect “conflict†to your chosen chapter, and show some exercise on conflict resolution or conflict transformation. Plan on something that leaves the audience with a “oh, I get it†feeling. This may be in the form of an online quiz, or other interactive tool. TIP: Use chapter 11 for ideas, resources, etc.
- Presentation Aids in the form of a PowerPoint are required. TIP: Use slides sparingly, keep text to a minimum, and use large font. Better to keep it very simple, and explain fully.
Suggested Presentation Format:
Introduction: ½ -1 minute (Who are you? What is the purpose of your project? What do you plan to cover in the project?)
Chapter Concept: 2-3 minutes (Clearly specify which chapter you chose, and which course concept you will use; remind us of the definition and give a very clear example of the course concept.
Conflict: 2-3 minutes (What roles does conflict play in your chosen chapter / course concept? Or, what is a scenario where conflict, via your course concept, may happen in real life?)
Discussion: 2-3 minutes (What do YOU think about this? How does this relate to Interpersonal Communication as a whole? Did you access other resources? What did you find? What quiz can you show us? Etc.)
Conclusion: ½ minute (Remind us what you covered, and what you hope we will take away from your project).
