Sex and Violence in Popular Culture Discussion

Essay 2 is an in-class essay. The second half of your essay should be devoted to developing YOUR stance on sex and violence in popular culture by identifying sources from various media, including TV, radio, Internet, print, and film.

You have two prompts from which to choose. The first prompt, coupled with an example, can be found on pg. 73. The second prompt, also coupled with an example, can be found on pg. 76.

When composing this essay, make sure to define your terms in your first paragraph.

Make sure that your claim also identifies your stance on sex and violence in popular culture. (Of course, even though it is your stance, this is not an invitation to employ first person: I, Me, My, etc.)

Use the last three paragraphs of your essay to develop your stance on sex and violence in popular culture. In doing so, employ support from “other” sources. These may include television talk shows, sit-coms, dramas, cartoons, etc. Or “other” sources may mean websites like Facebook or The Onion. “Other” sources may be a reference to billboards, magazines, movies, music, or, in essence, anything that can be deemed “popular culture.” Employ many examples from “other” sources to advance your stance on sex and violence in popular culture.

You may bring fourteen quotations to support your argument. (They can be no more than three lines each, size 12 point, Times New Roman).
