Hello Professor and Class,

The legislation does affect various groups of populations. According to Taylor et al. (2017), political interference in healthcare threatens women and men’s health. The Republican’s legislative agenda was to disassemble the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and instead, place the American Health Care Act (AHCA (Milstead & Short, 2019). The House did pass the bill to repeal and place the Affordable Care Act (ACA); but both houses did not come to an overall contentment (Tricia, Karen, & Larry, 2017).

Due to the ACA, more than 20 million people have obtained health care coverage. The ACA also prohibited insurers from refusing care to those with pre-existing conditions. With the AHCA proposal, insurers will be able to refuse coverage as well as increasing premiums to people with pre-existing conditions and adults susceptible to diseases like cancer and diabetes (Tricia, Karen & Larry, 2017).

I believe, adults between the ages of 50-64 are at higher risks because do not qualify for Medicare until the age of 65. In addition, the insurers can refuse those demographics health coverage, and they can face unaffordable premiums because insurers had broad latitude to set higher premiums for older and sicker enrollees.

The AHCA plan would limit federal funds for states that have elected to expand the coverage to those under Medicaid, therefore repealing the Affordable Care Act would lead to a higher federal match for state expansion funding (Tricia, Karen, & Larry, 2017).
