I have always found downplayers to be interesting. In my professional experience, I’ve spent quite a bit of time working with metrics and analytics. We often say “what story are you trying to tell?” In the other words, what is the main point you are trying to get across and accompanied with what feeling? If I say that we “only had 1,000 people leave the company last year”, what does that mean to you in lieu of additional facts? How would you know if this is good, bad, or the same? How would you response change if I said, “we had 1,000 people leave the company last year”?
