Essay # 2: Analysis of Print Advertisement
Select a print advertisement to analyze. In a 1200-1600 word formal essay, describe the advertisement; identify its purpose; identify its probable target audience/market; identify and explain what assumptions the advertisers hold about the target audience, and explain what kind or kinds of appeal the advertisement makes: logical, moral, emotional, or some combination of the three. What words does the advertisement use? What kind or kinds of images does the advertisement use? What purpose do the images serve? How do the images and the words work together? Based on the analysis, what can conclusions can one draw about advertising and/or mass media? A copy of the advertisement is due with the final draft of the essay.
