It is very important for an officer to understand the criminal trial process, because the case does not end at apprehension. Depending on what the offender was apprehended for there is going to be a court case. When an officer makes an arrest, he takes the offender to the station to be processed then he has to file his report and he needs to be fully aware of the whole incident so that his report is accurate. When the case is made in court and goes to trial the officer needs to be ready to be called on his report and the incident and knowing the process keeps the officer in the loop of how the trial may go.

A police officers job does not end once they have made an arrest. After the arrest officers must continue to conduct interviews and gathering as much evidence as they can. All of the information that is gathered is then put into multiple reports and sent to the District Attorney’s office. These reports then become important during a trial. It is important for officers to understand the criminal trial process so that they can conduct their jobs properly. The work that officers have to continue to do is important to the criminal trial process. During trial the information that officers collect and gather is used to prove ones guilt or innocence.
